As part of National Construction Week (NCW 6th – 13th October), Geoff Martin from H& J Martin hosted a visit for Royal School Armagh to the refurbishmenet site of Armagh Planetarium in association with, the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

The £2million refurbishment project on Armagh Planetarium will modernise the Space Theatre and site amenities alongside implementing changes for disabled access. The work commenced in November 2004 and the project is expected to be completed in spring 2006.

As part of the site visit Owen Mullan, Quantity Surveyor on the project explained his role and also gave a personal account of how he came to work in construction. Students were given an informative tour of the site by John McDonnell Project Manager and Harry Ellison, Foreman.

“ These students are all considering a career in construction, so it was ideal to give them an insight to a local project and an overview of what is involved at all levels,” Said Mary McDermott, from the New Entrant Team at CITB. “ Throughout NCW we have a series of events planned province wide that will help thousands of people discover the real story behind construction by demonstrating what can be achieved by some of the most innovative and forward thinking companies and highlighting the wide range of career opportunities within the industry.”
